Do I need a friend or family member in Manitoba to apply for the MPNP?

Not necessarily, but a connection to Manitoba helps under most streams. The MPNP generally recognizes several kinds of connection: a close relative or eligible friend settled in Manitoba who supports your application, previous work or study in the province, or an invitation through a Manitoba recruitment initiative. A supporter usually must show they are established in Manitoba, so a casual acquaintance rarely qualifies. If you have no connection at all, other provinces' streams may fit better.
