A job outside Toronto is one of the biggest point boosts in the whole grid.

How the Workforce Priority Stream score works

Ontario ranks candidates on a 130-point grid across three groups. The higher your score, the more likely you are to receive an invitation when Ontario holds a draw. Cut-off scores change from draw to draw, so there is no fixed “pass mark”. The goal is simply to make your profile as strong as it honestly can be.

New in 2026: In June 2026, the Workforce Priority stream replaced all eight of the OINP's former streams. Our full Ontario PNP (OINP) guide explains the three pathways (TEER 0–3, TEER 4–5 and self-employed physicians), who is eligible, and how to apply.

The biggest levers (for most newcomers)

  • Language. Moving from CLB 6 to CLB 9 is worth up to 11 points. That is often the fastest, cheapest gain.
  • Location. A job outside Toronto is worth up to 15 points. The same job in Northern Ontario can outscore a higher-paid Toronto role.
  • Wage & experience. A higher hourly wage and more months of Ontario work add up quickly. This is where landing the right job matters most.
  • Canadian credentials. A Canadian diploma or certificate adds 5–10 points and often lifts your job’s TEER level too.
Working in ECE, daycare or a caregiving role? Your points usually come less from wage and more from Ontario experience, a job outside Toronto, your Canadian credential and your language score. A Registered ECE (RECE) role scores higher than an ECE Assistant role because of its skill level. We can help you target roles that build the strongest profile.
